Baseball

Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams, typically consisting of nine players each. The game is played on a field with a diamond-shaped layout, which includes four bases. The objective is for one team, known as the batting team, to score runs by hitting a ball thrown by the opposing team’s pitcher and then running around the bases to reach home plate.

The game is divided into two phases: offense, when the batting team attempts to score runs, and defense, when the fielding team tries to prevent runs from being scored. Each team has a turn to bat and a turn to field every inning, with a standard game consisting of nine innings.

Points, known as runs, are scored when a player successfully reaches home plate after touching each of the four bases in a counter-clockwise direction. The team with the most runs at the end of the game is declared the winner. Baseball is recognized for its unique terminology, statistics, and strategies, and it has a rich history, especially in the United States, where it is often referred to as “America’s pastime.”
